The latest installment in Transition Sarasota’s Films for a Future documentary series, This Changes Everything, is an epic attempt to re-imagine the vast challenge of climate change. Inspired by the international non-fiction bestseller by Naomi Klein,  the film presents seven powerful portraits of communities on the front lines, from Montana’s Powder River Basin to the Alberta Tar Sands, from the coast of South India to Beijing and beyond. Interwoven with these  stories is Klein’s narration, which builds to her most controversial and  exciting idea: that we can seize the existential crisis of climate  change to transform our failed economic system into something radically better. This free outdoor screening will be held during the monthly Fourth Fridays Festival atSarasota’s Historic Downtown Village,  which starts at 5:00pm and features live entertainment as well as food and other guest vendors. At 7:00pm, we will hear from David Houle, an internationally-renowned futurist and co-founder of a new local nonprofit focused on addressing climate change, This Spaceship Earth. The film itself will start shortly after sunset, around 7:30pm. Sponsored by Keffie’s EcoChic Boutique & Interior Design.  Please bring a chair or blanket to sit on. Live Music – 7:00 pm | Free
Cafe in the Park 2010 Adams Lane Sarasota, FL 34237
This week we welcome a new artist singer-songwriter , Doug Burns.  After years of playing guitar and singing for the punk rock band Last Great Hope he decided to take a different direction and explore another style of music. Doug always loved (good) country music, even before he really knew what it was all about. he never went for the pop stuff but always knew Johnny Cash was cool. He was kind of my “gateway drug” to other country artists like Hank Williams Sr., Waylon Jennings, Hank 3 and Guy Clark. In the same way, the Ramones led me into punk rock, Johnny Cash opened the door to a different world of music. Come out Friday night and help us welcome Doug Burn as the newest member in our arsenal of great local talent. Sunshowers or not, the show goes on!
