Sarasota Brassfest – 5:00 pm | $20
The Church of the Redeemer 222 S. Palm Avenue Sarasota, FL 34236
It is common knowledge that Sarasota is the arts capital of Florida. Our small town has ballet companies, orchestras, performing arts halls. Yes, we are using plural terms. What you didn’t know is that every Tuesday since the beginning of June, the largest assemblage of professional brass players in Florida rehearses glorious brass music. The First Brass was founded four years ago as an outreach ministry of First Presbyterian Church of Sarasota. The group is the only year round professional large brass ensemble in the Southeast United States. During the summer months the group meets weekly to keep their chops up (or to keep their embouchure strong and sight reading aptitude sharp). This summer, August 28th, the group will perform The 1st Annual Sarasota BRASSFEST. Founder Gary Reinstrom explains, Our BRASSFEST brings together the finest Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Tuba and Percussion musicians Florida’s West Coast has to offer. The sound is massive and literally lifts you out of your seat. The arrangements we play are amazing. The Summer BRASSFEST will include twelve trumpets, ten horns, five trombones/euphonium, two tubas, two percussionists and Sarasota’s finest organ. The venue is as marvelous as the music on the hottest Sunday in August. The performance begins at 5:00 p.m., August 28th with trumpet player and ABC7 Anchor Scott Dennis as Master of Ceremony. International vocalist, Sharon Scott, may enhance the brass in the ‘Battle Hymn of Republic’ and other selections. With all that happens in Sarasota, this is one concert you won’t want to miss.
