The detail in the botanical imagery from works as old as the 18th century is stunning. This interactive exhibition features flat screen monitors showcasing events in the history of ART Network, the award- winning, student-operated television network now entering its 5th year at Ringling College. A Periscope station invites users to record live and stream around the world. A green-screen station offers visitors the opportunity to take on the role of director, actor and cinematographer. Viewers can choose short programs to watch on iPads or select longer offerings, such as the award-winning documentary, Art (R) evolution which premiered in 2014. Interviews with notable visitors to Sarasota such as Kevin Smith, Cheryl Hines and Sissy Spacek, and talks by local artists, scientists and thinkers captured by ART Network are included in this exhibition. Our ASG Chapter is have a community service Sew Along on August 27th from 10am to 4pm at the SELBY LIBRARY located at 1331 1ST STREET, SARASOTA FL. ADOPT A FALLEN for the Standing With Our Fallen 9 / 11 Fifteen Year Commemoration to be held Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Sarasota National Cemetery, located at 9810 State Road 72, 34241. In the days before the 9 / 11 Commemoration, area residents and visitors will be able to ADOPT A FALLEN by visiting http://bit.ly/29R65gP and choosing among the 2,977 names engraved in bronze at the 9 / 11 Memorial in New York City. (It can take 2 minutes for all 2,977 names to show in order for the adopting link to work.) Everyone is invited to come to the Sarasota National Cemetery to stand and state their ADOPTED FALLEN’s name during the Sarasota Fire Department’s Tolling Of The Bell. Later in the Commemoration, all will be asked to stand for their ADOPTED FALLEN while the Sarasota Military Academy bagpipers play Amazing Grace. Beginning at 6:00 pm and concluding well before sunset, the memory of those who died will be honored. Our first responders, active military and veterans will be recognized, and a call for all Americans to the Unity of One Nation Under God will be summoned. Congressman Vern Buchanan, Bishop Frank J. Dewane of the Venice Diocese, Sheriff Thomas Knight, Police & Fire Chiefs, Mayors & Commissioners, Clergy, a Community Chorus of 100+ area residents, Military Officers and Veterans are participating in this memorable commemorative service. Special commemorative coins have been minted to mark the occasion and will be presented to Sarasota’s First Responders, Veterans and active Military and surviving families.
